(Online course)

Class information

Are you a writer who struggles to get words on the page? Do you have an idea for a novel but don’t know where to start? Love writing, but hate rewriting?

Writing Fiction: Finding Inspiration & Developing your Craft (online) is a course for writers currently working on short stories or the first draft of a novel - and writers who would like to be working on short stories and/or a novel.

This course has a dual focus—unleashing creativity through writing prompts and exercises, and building up your writer’s toolkit of story conventions and craft.

We will look at:

  1. Getting started

  2. Character & Point of View

  3. Setting

  4. Show and/or Tell

  5. Story & Structure

  6. Voice & Dialogue

  7. Drafting & Polishing

  8. Presenting your work

Who will it suit?

This course will suit aspiring writers, and emerging writers wanting to refine their skills through a deeper understanding of craft.

You may wish to consider the Advanced Craft course if you are further along in the novel-writing process (second or third draft).

This course gave so much. My personal work has improved dramatically as a result and this is entirely because of our brilliant facilitator Susie. Her empathy and positivity made all of us feel so comfortable sharing our own work and gave us the confidence to improve. Thank you for such a positive first experience on my writing journey!

A huge thank you to Susie. She made the course enjoyable, informative and just plain fun. I didn’t feel disadvantaged learning online and in fact, enjoyed seeing how comfortable everyone felt participating in the chatroom, thanks to Susie
